Been trying to get this to run and have some strange issues. Load it up once, but don't see any cutscenes, just get the audio. Then if I quit and try to reload it, it resizes the desktop and won't respond. Have to go through the task manager to end the task. But... if i rename the folder that i put it into it and try to run it, it will load again. Have to change the folder name each time I quit but my player profile isn't saved (and it would be nice to see the cutscenes to know what's happening). Got me completely stumped. Race to Shangri-La does the same thing. Only tried it on my laptop (core i3 3xxx, win8.1 x64, intel hd 4000). Anyone got any ideas? These are the downloads from the Mutant League backer section of the website.

Probably some missing movie

Probably some missing movie codec, did you try installing the k-lite pack? Also, see if you have flash installed (some of the games used flash players)

3 cards to Midnight runs fine

3 cards to Midnight runs fine on my PC which makes me think it's not a codec issue, nor a flash issue.

I wouldn't make that

I wouldn't make that assumption. Companies often change the engines they use from game to game. Even if they don't, the company that makes the engine often does updates that are incompatible with previous versions.

This really does sound like a CODEC issue. What I would do is make an image of you system's drive, then experiment with a CODEC pack. If it doesn't work, Restore from the image backup and try another CODEC pack, and so on.

The Rita and 3Cards games use

The Rita and 3Cards games use different engines...probably not fair to compare (one works, one does not)

I would try downloading again...I wonder if there was/is some corruption?

Thanks Steve. More making

Thanks Steve. More making reference to how 3 cards would play FLV's fine and Rita wouldn't as to why I didn't believe it to be codec related. I have only tried it on my Laptop so when I get a chance will see what happens when I try to run it on my desktop. If that doesn't work will try and download it again over the weekend sometime. Just really strange that it runs once, but when I try to run it again I have to move it to a different folder for it to run again.

Edit:

So I found out the reason behind the only booting once and then crashing. Seems a value is being created in the registry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Direct3D\Shims\MaximizedWindowedMode

when I delete the reference to shangri_la.exe (same goes for thunder island) the game starts up again. Assuming windows is doing some compatibility thing on exit that screws up launching the game the next time.

One problem down. Now to figure out the audio only cutscenes and I'm good to go.

Edit 2:

Definitely not a codec issue as I suspected it wasn't. Have ffdshow installed already so installed a FLV splitter and flv's played fine in Media Player, but not in game.
